Guesthouse Association of Maldives (GAM) is a non-profitable NGO established in 2014, registered at Ministry of Youth & Sports. We are representing and working as a Parental body of Local Tourism Sector. The association has evolved over the years to be the leading NGO in the industry and is the only voice of the Local Island based tourism. GAM Coordinates with the government policy making bodies in providing the utmost assistance to develop and sustain the Local Tourism Sector which benefits the government and the local community of the Maldives. The association cooperates with all the guest houses of the Maldives, conducts research-based works, raising awareness and as well as promoting the local tourism sector.
Previously known as GAM, the association has taken a bold step towards re-branding and re-strategizing with a new action plan. The association is now known as NHGAM — National Hotels & Guesthouses Association of Maldives — with hotels and homestays added alongside guesthouses under new laws, representing over 12,400 beds across 703 establishments as the official national NGO for local community tourism. NHGAM's responsibilities now go beyond the previously guesthouse-centric focus: promoting the essence of the Maldives — culture, values and island life — while working closely with local communities to bring the image of individual atolls into focus. Our promotional face is www.iam.mv — support community tourism, elevate Maldives.
